Our Lenten Link today said, "Do a special coloring activity on Mass with the kids" I have really been looking forward to this link because a friend gave me some great coloring books about Prayers and Mass and I had been saving them for a special occasion.
and although I had been looking forward to teaching the kids about the Mass... with these books.... my children's coloring skills do not quite match pious levels.
So, we played Mass too!
Clark and Iris set up a congregation of dolls on the rug. I made an altar out of an end table and covered it with a special white cloth. Iris put on her purple "stole" which was a long scrap of fabric I had used in our LENT box. She and Clark took turns carrying Crosses and the Bible down the center isle between their dolls while we sang, "Here I am to Worship" which happens to be Clark's most favorite song.
For the Liturgy of the Word, Iris read from the bible.
Her scripture reading consisted of her saying "monkey, monkey, monkey" and pointing out all of the monkeys in the Garden of Eden.
The kids brought up the gifts - Smarties and Juice.
We blessed our communion by reading the Children's Bible story of the Last Supper. We held hands and prayed the Our Father, and then gave each other a sign of peace.
Each child took turns serving as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, and acting like respectful congregant until the candy and juice were gone. Afterwards, we said what we were thankful for. Then we had a final blessing and a procession out.
They really loved processing, and processed in and out for quite a while, taking turns holding the cross.
These kids... they belong to God. I hope that they always accept that blessing. I just get to borrow them for a little while. I really love taking care of these little people that God has blessed me with and I love how their little, simple lives glorify His Joy.
Wonderful idea! I'm sure the kids loved it too:)
