Our Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, hear our prayer:

Please weave the women of St. Raphael into a beautiful tapestry of faith and friendship. Let us be woven by your Holy Spirit with our eyes and hearts set upon Christ our Savior. Help us shine with the light of Christ and draw souls to Jesus. We ask this in the name of Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

Lobby Night – a Mission of Truth

Posted by Alina

The Church...does not claim 'to interfere in any way in the politics of the States.' She does, however, have a mission of truth to accomplish.
-Pope Benedict XVI
Caritas in Veritate, 2009

Be a voice in the Public Square! Come join other fellow Catholics at Lobby Night in Annapolis, to be a part of the process.

This is YOUR chance to attend the office appointment made by the Maryland Catholic Conference (MCC) for your district to put a face and voice to issues of grave importance to the faith. Constituents’ physical presence and support is an extremely effective method to convey our concern to our elected representatives.

The issues of concern related to the Catholic faith for this year’s session will include:
  • The Death Penalty
  • Gun Control (including to improve mental health services)
  • Budget Reductions and the Social Safety Net
  • Immigration
  • Abortion Statistics
  • Catholic School Funding

Check out Maryland Catholic Conference at http://mdcathcon.org for more information about Lobby Night – the Conference is the “coordinator” of this important day.  Find out which District you are in, and who your State Representatives are at: http://mdelect.net and type in your street address.

When: February18, President's Day
Where: Annapolis (carpool together from St. Raphael's 1pm, returning ~8pm)
When: Plan to arrive in Annapolis by 2:30pm.

This is a very well-organized event by MCC, and much less intimidating than I expected it to be when I first went last year. There is so much support, and it is so encouraging to see the different people from other churches, and different Districts, appearing, and caring about the same issues. To just be there to physically support the cause is so valuable.
