The torments of the cross are intolerable misery come alive,
Onto Jesus suffering the pain and agony of demise.
Standing next to Jesus and looking in His eyes my heart is pierced by the sight,
To the mocking, the criminal at His side adds a measure of scorn,
But the other defends this injustice feeling contrite and forlorn.
Jesus shows the measure of God’s Love is infinite in His sacrifice,
And mercifully says to the sinner, “…you will be with me in paradise.”
From the cross Jesus extends forgiveness and promise of redemption,
Hope of heaven to enter and behold God’s glory and perfection.
To the sinner who at his last hour makes a desperate petition,
He assures him of the eternal garden by His love and mercy mission.
To the cross we may approach with confidence of the Father’s unfailing love,
Walking by faith and not by sight that He is ever present from above.
Putting our trust in Jesus that He is our strength and our shield,
And with the courage to hope for what has not yet revealed.
Steadfast at the cross, I bind my hope to the Blood that falls like dew,
Believing in Jesus and the mercy of God to see me through.
Like the sinner on the cross who cried out to the Spotless Victim,
I pray, Jesus, remember me when You come into Your Kingdom.
