"Trust in in The Lord with all your heart,
and lean not on your own understanding..."
To receive a blessing at a healing service requires great trust.
And trust in any relationship takes time and preparation. Preparing oneself before we receive a blessing is doing our part. As we prepare to receive our Lord's blessing it is important to ask ourselves a few questions. What do you really want The Lord to do for you through this blessing? Sometimes we really don't know what we want nor what's best for us. So ask The Lord to show you.
Prayer ahead of time is key to creating an open and teachable heart.
To receive a blessing is to reach out and gather it in, to welcome it into your heart and life. You might say as you approach the altar: "I accept this gift, this blessing. I allow it into my soul to heal me and change me."
However, as human as we are, there will always be traces of fear, doubt or feelings of unworthiness, pride, wounds of rejection etc. - the list can go on.
If we allow these voices to overcome us or allow them to take center stage, they can act as a block to the grace being given.
Here is more encouragement from author Linda Schubert from her book The Healing Power of a Father's Blessing:
"You might be saying, 'But I'm not wonderfully made." I'm broken, sick, ugly, and I have failed." "I have run away, down wrong paths." "I've hurt people." "I'm angry - how can I face God when I am angry at Him.?" "I'm a has been." " I'm irresponsible." "I'm not liked."..... You may have a litany of failures and excuses to present to The Lord, but He will quiet your arguments and say, "No child of mine is ugly. I am a God of restoration, so come. Just come. Give it all to me. I am the answer to your needs. Let me forgive you. Let me love you. I created you to love you."
You're invited to the next Eucharistic Healing Service on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:30pm in the Church. Confessions begin at 7:00pm.
