Our Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, hear our prayer:

Please weave the women of St. Raphael into a beautiful tapestry of faith and friendship. Let us be woven by your Holy Spirit with our eyes and hearts set upon Christ our Savior. Help us shine with the light of Christ and draw souls to Jesus. We ask this in the name of Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

The Mystery of The Snowflake, Catholic Schools Week

The Mystery of the Snowflake
(Each one looks like a little star)

This year's Catholic Schools Week has as it's theme....
"Raising the Standard"

Raising the Standard can mean many things. But when it comes to teaching, forming and raising our children, the most important thing it can mean for us as parents, teachers, care givers, administrators, nurses, etc., is helping our children to recognize, day by day, moment by moment.....who they are in Christ.

Having the "image " and "likeness of God" means in the simplest of terms that we are to reflect His glory and beauty in all that we do and to one another, because God is in them too.
(Genesis 1:27)
But sometimes it's all too easy to forget that wonderful truth about ourselves and one another; so God in all His goodness has given us Christ...
"Christ who is the image of God."
And God doesn't just stop there. He gives us beauty all around us, so when we lose our focus on Christ we just have to look to our surroundings and know that God is with us.
Our surroundings are the people we love and those who love us, our family, our friends, our community,.
God never takes His eyes off us, He showers us with His love in nature and creation too, with each and every season He reflects His beauty and awesome wonders.
In this season of winter, we focused on the snowflake or the ice crystal. The snowflake is a beautiful symbol and reminder of who we are in Christ.
His children, like our children,  are unique as the snowflake. Each and every one is created, counted, and special....there is no other one like it.
All are gifts from heaven.
Where a snowflake falls and lands determines its beauty. It's environment is important. If a snowflake falls on rocks or dirt, it can fall into the cracks and disappear.
If the ground is warm...it will melt and it's beauty will never be seen.  Yet when it lands on a solid structure or something invisible like glass or a windshield, it spreads its splendor and its beauty is displayed.
This invisible piece is our faith, our foundation and the environment ....our schools, our Church.
In creating these paper snowflakes, we asked the children to reflect as they cut....who they are in Christ.

You are special.
You are wonderfully made.
There is nobody like you.
There is no one in the world who has your eyes.
There is no one in the world who has your laugh.
No one in the world has your exact hair and every hair on your head has been counted by God.
He knows you, He loves you, He created you.
And all that happens in your life will create and form you too.

So pay attention as you cut each piece of the snowflake. If you were to make a second snowflake, no matter how hard you try - you couldn't make the same snowflake twice.
Each cut is unique. And with every cut that is made, one can not see the beauty of its mark until the unfolding takes place.

As it is with these paper snowflakes, the marks, the cuts, the angle and precision of the scissors, and eventually the unfolding, so it is with our lives, our heart, and our souls.
If we are blessed and if we are faithful and continue to lean on the invisible foundation of our Catholic faith,
We too can point to Christ like the star of Bethlehem for all to see.

When snowflakes dance side by side in communion with one another...you get  a wonderful, beautiful...snowy day!
So as you walk these hallways and notice the snowflakes dancing side by side, pointing to Christ...
Pray for your child to deepen in God's beauty and point the way to our Lord.

That is what raising the standard is all about!
