Our Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, hear our prayer:

Please weave the women of St. Raphael into a beautiful tapestry of faith and friendship. Let us be woven by your Holy Spirit with our eyes and hearts set upon Christ our Savior. Help us shine with the light of Christ and draw souls to Jesus. We ask this in the name of Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

Making Music Praying Twice

This week St. Raphael started a program called Making Music Praying Twice.  It is a program similar to Music Together classes, but incorporates our Catholic faith as well. It is designed for children from 0-5 years old.  My children had a great time and I wanted to share the experience with you.

Our teacher, Diane shared the Christmas story with us and our children.

Then we sang songs about baby Jesus, the three Kings, and more. Here is Diane rocking baby Jesus.

The older children really got into the nativity scene.

We danced and sang with a parachute.

We danced with silk scarves.

And we prayed.

The foundational thought of this program is that parents or caregivers model singing, dancing, playing instruments, and prayer.  Our children are in such an early and unique time of their lives.  0-5 is also a time of great opportunity in brain development around topics such as language, music, and faith.  To reinforce the music they were exposed to, each family gets to take home a CD of the music and a coloring book.

It was a ton of fun, the parents loved it, the kids loved it, and afterwards we went to the playground and hung out a little longer. It was a great event and I met new parents and new children.

If you missed this event but would like to participate in the future, there will be another offering of the Christmas Making Music Praying Twice on Thursday, December 15th at 4pm There is a small ($8) recommended fee for materials. Click here for the registration form.  Questions?  contact Mary.

They also hope to schedule a regular program in the winter/spring, so keep your eyes open to news about that too!
