Our Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, hear our prayer:

Please weave the women of St. Raphael into a beautiful tapestry of faith and friendship. Let us be woven by your Holy Spirit with our eyes and hearts set upon Christ our Savior. Help us shine with the light of Christ and draw souls to Jesus. We ask this in the name of Jesus, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.

Go tell it on the mountain!

A number of children participated in the Making Music Praying Twice program for Christmas time. This program was offered twice - I was fortunate enough to attend both wonderful sessions!

We sang, "Angels we have heard on high! Sweetly singing o'er the plains! Gloria in excelsis deo! Gloria in excelsis deo!"  We danced with a parachute.

This program is designed to expose our children to the music of our faith, and foster development in the musical portions of their brains. One of the ways this is done is by singing songs over and over again with tones, "bum bum bum bum" and by changing the words so the kids are constantly stimulated an interested in the song. First we sang "Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere! Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!" Then we sang, "click your eggs like Abby." so that the kids would keep shaking and keep singing, enjoying not just hearing their name called, but shaking their eggs to the beat and listening to the musicality of the song! After two sessions my 2 year old son knew most of the words to this song. Today in the car, I heard it on the Christian radio and he said, "They're singing about Jesus"! Oh my heart, I'm so happy he knows which songs are about Jesus!

The class is designed for 0-5 years old. As you can see from the videos the older kids love it! The youngest of our children can benefit too. Even little Iris could shake her eggs and dance along with us!

Exposure to music and musical instruments at this age is priceless.  Development of that musical part of their brains is a time sensitive gift that we will never be able to take away from our children! Gladly, the same is true for the faith we impart to our children.  I'm so happy we are going to be having this music program in the new year!

They learned the story of the 3 Kings.  The teacher was great at imparting the joy of the 3 kings as they brought great gifts, praises, and told of their journey across the deserts!
We also danced with scarves, celebrating the birth of Jesus the Christ!  The song says, "Come now to sing and play for the Lord, dance for the Lord with hearts full of joy!" I think we definitely did.

The Making Music Praying Twice Program will begin a new, ten-week session on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10am.  Contact Mary Beaudoin for more information or to register! I know I'm signing up!

  1. I also wanted to say that I normally don't dress my little boy in girls clothes like in the videos and photos, its just that we went to the playground before the program and he got soaking wet. They were the only clothes I had!
