Catholic Schools Week is a beautiful time when all of us are asked to pause and reflect what it means to be a Catholic.
Every year, Catholic Schools Week has a theme to help see our Catholic faith from a new and different perspective. Last year's theme brought one to reflect on the dignity of the individual and the beauty that God has created in you and sees in you everyday of your life. We decorated the hallways of the school with snowflakes as we drew on the analogy of the snowflake and the human soul and how the handprint of God makes each one different and uniquely special. The color chosen was white signifying the purity with which He created us.
This year's theme is just as beautiful -looking at our Catholic Tradition through the eyes of service in community, knowledge and faith. The reflections that we'll publish this week will help us begin to see how each part relates to the whole.
The logo for Catholic Schools Week this year presents colors swirling around the Cross. Each color is contained in itself and centered around Christ. In other words, each color stays true to itself...the orange doesn't blend into the blue, the blue doesn't blend into the purple and so on. They sit side by side without compromising their own hue. While sitting next to its neighboring color, each color complements, not competes with, the surrounding colors. Rainbows work in the same way. And as light shines through, the colors become more beautifully radiant and cast their color on all that it touches.
If we take this analogy of the rainbow and colors being true to how they were created - and apply it to our lives, the colors being our gifts from God and the light being Christ, we can ask ourselves:
What kind of rainbow am I? How do I cast my colors? Do I share my gifts or keep them hidden deep inside? Do I live my life as The Heavenly Father created me to be?
Or do I try and be like everyone else just to fit in?
Do I allow Christ to be a part of how I cast my colors? Do I cast my colors in the luminescence of Christ?
Or do I claim the colors as my own taking all the credit.
Let's face it...when we cast our colors with help of our Lord....our colors are multiplied, more beautiful, lives are changed, our casting has purpose and our soul, as it was created to be, is joyful!
As you read our reflections on service, knowledge and faith throughout this week, ask the Holy Spirit to be with you and to lend you the spirit of understanding.
