I am constantly reminded of the difference between what I just "Can't" do, versus what I just "Don't Want To" do (at the moment). Of course, the second is something I strongly know I "Should" do also. As a parent, I should be well aware of the definition of the two...and I am. But I started trying out the phrase that I "Can't", because sometimes I just want there to be a limit for my own capacity! Amazingly, there usually is no limit to one's capacity...especially with a prayerful heart.
The best time to see this valuable lesson, in plain black and white, is when we get sick. Because when we are healthy, we "Can" clean the house, help our family, play with the kids, hang out with friends, and go get groceries. When we are not healthy, suddenly, we see how messy the house is, we want to help the family, play with the kids, and ...OH...I wish I picked up groceries yesterday.
This may be why my favorite (and most challenging) virtue is Fortitude.
